Fergus O Mahony
Club President 2016/17

A Message from our President

It is a wonderful honour and privilege for me to be President of this great club for the 2016 2017 season. Like my predecessors, I will strive to uphold the values and traditions that this club has stood for since its foundation in 1930. As President I extend a warm welcome to all our visitors to Woodleigh Park this season, in particular our visiting teams, their officials and supporters. We also welcome all the referees and match officials who will come to our club during the season to facilitate our games.

The facilities at Woodleigh Park are consistently being upgraded, this could not have happened without the support of our members, the local community, the hard work of various development and fundraising committees, the generous support of numerous sponsors and a number of sports capital grants. I thank everyone for their contribution to improving our facilities both on and off the pitch.

A sincere thank you to our club chairman Eugene Carly the management committee and all the sub committees for their tireless work to develop and grow the club.

I would like to congratulate our player coach Tim Ryan on a fantastic season last year and hopefully with the assistance of the rest of his coaching and management team that this season can be as successful. As Club President this year, it is my intention to attend as many Club matches as possible and in this regard I wish the best of luck to our Ladies, 2nds, 3rds and under 20 teams.

This year's club captain, Paddy O Toole has made a great contribution to our senior team over the past number of seasons. It was a great tribute to him and for our club that he won the AIL division 2B player of the season last year, his appointment is richly deserved. I wish Paddy and his senior team the best of luck for the upcoming Ulster Bank All Ireland League campaign and all other competitions this season. Best of luck also to the captains, coaches and the management teams of all the adult and underage teams in the Club in all the competitions they compete in this season.

I would like to pay a special tribute to Cormac Mahony who stepped down as club chairman this year. He has made a significant contribution over the past 5 years. I would also like to mention Tom Redmond, Holger Herz and Liam O Donovan who are stepping back from their roles. We owe these members immense thanks for their contributions.

I would also like to thank Robert Bogue for stepping into the role of Chairman of Rugby, he brings vast experience and a great thirst for the challenge ahead.

Good luck to our underage section for the coming year and thank you to their Chairman Jason Buckley the coaches, managers, and parents for all your work in looking after this vital part of our club. The benefits of the efforts being put in here will become visible in our adult teams in future years.

A special word for all those who already volunteer within the club. Without those who give of their time for free to help with the organisation of teams, coaching, medical assistance, fundraising and maintenance etc this club would not function as well as it does. I would appeal for more members to please come forward and play a more active role in any area of the club where you feel you can make a contribution.

I would like to thank all our advertisers and sponsors for their continued support and I again would appeal to everyone to make a conscious effort to support them during the year.

Finally, I would like to wish all our members, their families and friends a successful and enjoyable season and I look forward to meeting with you all during the season.

Yours in rugby,

Fergus O Mahony
