Sophie O'Rourke, a fifth year student at mount mercy college and member of Highfield squash club has at 17 years of age year become the youngest ever winner of the 2018 Irish Ladies Senior National squash title. Sophie at 15 years of age became the youngest to represent Ireland internationally and has already 9 caps in Senior European Competition ,representing Ireland in Warsaw and Helsinki at the European championships.

Unbeaten nationally in her age group for four years , and winner of the Swiss junior open super series event in 2016 and silver medalist to England in the 2017 U 17 European championships in Praque. Sophie also plays in the French senior premier league for French club Lorient .

Sophie has always enjoyed all sports but has fallen in love with squash. She finds it ticks so many important boxes such as fitness, agility, coordination,friendship. Its great to represent your local club highfield at an international level and will hopefully encourage others especially girls to take up the sport.

Sophie is coached by her father Kevin – a longstanding member of Highfield Squash – and no slouch himself, having represented Ireland at Masters level many times.
